If you are screening wet, sticky, or fine materials and your equipment keeps clogging every few hours, a triangle self-cleaning screen might be a good solution. It is not the most common screen type, but for certain jobs, it performs better than woven wire or some polyurethane options.

The Specs of Triangle Self Cleaning Screens

These screens use triangular profile wires welded at every crossing point to create rigid triangular openings. Generally, the openings range from 0.5mm to 100mm, and the wire diameter is between 1.0mm and 4.0mm. The open area usually stays between 35% and 50%. These screens are mostly made from carbon steel, stainless steel, or manganese steel, with panels sized up to 1500mm by 3000mm. The triangular shape is the most important part of the design.

Why Open Area Is the Real Game-Changer

The biggest benefit is the amount of open area. With a 1mm opening, a triangle self-cleaning screen provides about 40% more open space than a similar woven wire screen. This leads to higher throughput and less clogging. It also handles wet and sticky feeds better because the sharp V-angle prevents material from sitting flat on the surface, pushing particles through or off instead. These screens are also quite durable. Since the wires are welded rather than crimped, they do not loosen under heavy impact. Versions made of manganese steel last a long time when working with abrasive materials.

The Downsides Nobody Talks About Enough

However, there are some downsides. Triangular openings can allow near-size particles to pass through more easily than square mesh, which makes the screening less accurate. If you need a very precise cut for fine materials, this might not be your best option. These screens are also noisier than polyurethane ones. While the welding points are strong, they can crack under heavy, repetitive loads if the screen is too small for the specific job.

To pick the right screen, you should choose the wire material based on what you are processing. When you select the mesh size, pick one size smaller than your target cutting point to make up for the triangular shape. The mesh size should also be about 10% to 15% larger than the target cutting point. While this screen type is not a universal fix, it is a very effective and often overlooked choice for high-volume, wet, or abrasive screening.
